Bee Project

“Bee project” is the name given for one of the projects recently introduced through our school annual plan in the year 2025 ‘’Bees’’ are comprised with the students those who were selected from Grade 3 and Grade 4. Those students have demonstrated an outstanding fluency in speaking English while they were experiencing in other classroom activities. This group has been created keeping development of their communication skills through creative and interactive activities as the prime objective.

On 7th November 2025, Bees received an excellent opportunity to watch the film called ‘’Pete’s Dragon” which is a heartwarming story about the friendship, courage and imagination. This event was taken place at our school-smart class room where the morning session was allocated for Grade 3 Bees while the next session was allocated for Grade 4 Bees after a short interval.

Objectives of this activity were as follow:

🌸 To develop students’ listening and viewing comprehension skills through film based learning.

🌸To encourage students to pay attention on details while watching the film.

🌸To enhance vocabulary and sentence construction through discussion and worksheet activities.

🌸To promote critical thinking and expression of personal opinions about characters and events.

🌸To create an engaging and enjoyable learning experience using a visual medium.

🌸To encourage communication skills during the discussion.

A worksheet was prepared and were handed over to the students asking them to mark their responses. The worksheet included simple comprehension questions and activities related to the main characters, settings and some events in the story. They were asked to fill the sheet while they were watching the film, enabling them to stay attractive and more engaged.

After screening the film, a classroom discussion was held to share the students’ views and opinions about the film. During the discussion, all the students actively participated presenting their favorite scenes and explained what they have learned from the film’s story. While they were watching the film, some expressions of the students were so emotional. Many students expressed positive feeling about the friendship between Pete and the dragon Elliot. I was able to interview some of the students and I found that their answers were so sincere.

Followings are the interviews that I conducted with students.

How does this Bee Project help students in the real life-English usage?

This project helps students to use English confidently in their day-today life by strengthening and shaping up their speaking and communication skills. They can express their thoughts clearly and would be able to respond appropriately in real life situations. With great ease they will communicate with others who are in and outside the classroom. They will be better prepared for real life tasks such as asking questions, sharing ideas participating in conversations and understanding English in different day-today contexts.

How I was inspired?

Last few years, I have seen that the most students lack the confidence and are struggling with English communication. Therefore, I thought of selecting fluent speakers during the classroom activities. After a friendly discussion with the principal, we awarded the participants with a badge.

To maintain the process, Bees have to find out more bees for their beehive by engaging others in English .The results were unbelievable. As the teacher- in -charge of Grade 4, I have rewarded Bee Badges nearly to 40 students up to date.

Showing a film was one of the most engaging and successful program we were implemented for the Bees.
