Sound of English
On 3rd of November 2025, we the Grade 3 and Grade 4 teachers-in-charge organized a learning ladder for our students. It was named as “Sound of English”. We had two sessions which were conducted in our school smart room. The morning session was allocated for Grade 3 students and the second session was conducted for Grade 4 students. The event was compered by me.
The main objectives of this program were as follows:
- To foster a positive and enjoyable attitude towards learning English.
- To enhance students listening skills through songs and film viewing activities.
- To develop speaking skills by encouraging students to participate in riddles and guessing games.
- To build confidence in expressing ideas during interactive activities.
- To encourage creativity and imagination through playful language based activities.
To accomplish these
objectives, we both discussed and selected some
interesting and student engaging activities. I started the
event with a warm-up activity so that the students joyfully
attended actively, memorizing words in their mind. After a playful moment, I let them to play
riddles. It was named as” Who am I?”. It was such a lovely moment to see their
enthusiasm in answering. Then, we moved to a
guessing game. Students had to see the emoji’s carefully
and identify them first. After identifying the words,
they had to blend them to form new words.
Next, I started with the game “I spy with my eyes”. Students were asked to listen to a given letter sound and to select
correct pictures from a set of 8 -10. Guessing
and speaking sessions were successfully conducted and then I
moved to the singing session. Lyrics were given
and the students practiced singing. They danced and sang joyfully for these
three songs.
1. Hello,
hello, hello
2. In
and out
3. Banana
song
All
these songs were sang with actions.
As the last session, we selected to show them a 10 minute short, fairy tale. Before showing them the film, we gave some comprehension questions. From the start to the end students watched it with curiosity and I asked them to listen to the rain with closed eyes. It was such a nice experience. After that, few comprehension questions were asked and the most answered them accurately. We didn’t feel how the time has passed since it was such a great time to be with kids in this lovely learning environment.
How this learning ladder does help students in the real-life English usage?
Integration of riddles, guessing games, songs and short film based comprehension tasks provides learners with a meaningful opportunities to apply English in real life situations. This program strengthens the students’ ability of speaking and responding immediately with appropriate answers. Riddles and guessing games promote spontaneous language production. Singing songs enhance pronunciation, rhythm and memory retention. This program provided a meaningful experience that students can be used in their real lives.
How was I inspired
While searching for educational programs for our school kids, I found many interesting and enjoyable activities in the Internet. I felt that this will be something different experience for our kids. Therefore, I discussed this matter with the teacher of Grade 3 and prepared the presentation. The results were remarkable and we observed that the students engaged in these activities without any hesitation. Even though we had to do a sort of hard work it’s a pleasure to see a happy ending.
